If you are looking for some summer fun here in Delaware, you won’t have to go far or wait too long. There are plenty of fun events and festivals happening in the Wilmington area this summer. Here are a few of our favorites.
Delaware State Fair
The Delaware State Fair is always a fun event that brings the community together. The fair will be held July 19 through the 28, this year. One of the highlights of the fair is always the Summer Concert Series. This year, you can hear from big names artists like Tobey Keith, Brett Eldredge, Chris Young, Jeff Dunham, Lauren Daigle and more. Tickets are on sale now.
Did you know that Bob Marley used to live in Wilmington? He lived with his mother and worked as a lab assistant at Dupont and on the factory floor at the Chrysler plant. Today, Bob Marley is known around the world for his amazing music. This summer, come to the annual People’s Festival that celebrates his legacy and his connection to Wilmington. Musicians will be sharing their talents on two stages at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park on July 28. The event is free to the public and will also features food vendors, a beer garden, craft vendors and a children’s village.
For over 200 years, the August Quarterly has been an important celebration of freedom. It was originally part of the Underground Railroad system and today brings people together as the oldest African American festival in the country. Many families come together for reunions at this festival. The festival begins August 19 with an Opening Worship Service and ends August 26 with the Big Quarterly Celebration. There will be a variety of events every day including storytelling, singing, crafts, books, African clothing and other vendors.
